Comprehensive Hearing Assessment

Our hearing assessments are designed to give you a clear and complete understanding of your hearing health and how it may impact your overall well-being, including concerns such as tinnitus, communication challenges, or changes in cognitive function. We don’t hear with our ears alone. We hear with our brain.

During your appointment, we take time to learn about your concerns, medical history, daily listening environments, and how hearing difficulties may be affecting your life and the lives of those around you. Your evaluation includes comprehensive hearing testing to identify which sounds you may be missing and how your brain is processing sound.

After your assessment, we explain your results in an easy-to-understand way and answer any questions you may have. Based on your hearing needs, lifestyle, and goals, we provide personalized recommendations. If a permanent hearing loss is identified, hearing devices or other treatment options may be discussed, including how different styles and features can support your listening needs at home, work, and in social settings.

Hearing device recommendation

If your hearing assessment reveals a permanent hearing loss, hearing devices may be recommended. Your hearing professional may explain what sounds you have difficulty hearing, and what hearing aids can do to help. It is usually at this appointment that you will get to see and touch different styles of hearing aids. In some cases, you may even be able to listen to a hearing aid.

Your hearing professional will help you choose the best hearing treament style, features and level of sophistication based on your degree of hearing loss, lifestyle, and financial circumstances. Some hobbies and occupations may benefit from different hearing devices styles or features, so your hearing care provider may have you fill out a questionnaire to assist during the evaluation process. The final decision on which hearing devices are purchased is your choice, but your hearing care professional will make recommendations on the best options for your particular needs.

Once you make a decision, the hearing professional may take impressions of your ears if you selected custom hearing devices or behind-the-ear hearing devices that require earmolds. Hearing devices must usually be ordered from a manufacturer and then programmed by your hearing professional to meet your specific hearing needs. There is an adjustment period when wearing hearing devices, so it’s possible your provider may make additional changes to your settings to ensure you’re getting the best listening experience possible.
